Event Ad

Description: A full bleed color Event Ad to promote awareness for the 2014 Avalanche on Mt. Everest by using only a scanner and Microsoft Word.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): First I scanned the image. Then I uploaded the image into Microsoft Word, changed the sizing and fit the image to the draft. I then sized and resized so that I could place the man in the image off to the right hand side. I added text boxes, found fonts that I liked for the message if the Ad. I used alignment and contrasting fonts to refine my design.

Message: I wanted to raise awareness about the devastating avalanche in Nepal and the Sherpa’s. This Ad is designed to fit in anywhere; on a bulletin board, telephone pole, newspaper, classroom, email or as a handout or “pass-a-long”.

Audience:  Anyone in the Boise community who wants to broaden their cultural experience, NGO’s, Non-Profits or anyone looking to support a great cause.

Color scheme and color names: Monochromatic, red, yellow and green.

Top Thing Learned: The most important thing I learned through the course of the project is how useable Microsoft Word is. It’s amazing all the hidden design features. It was very useful to learn how to scan properly.

Description:

Black and White promotional flier geared to promote a graduate leadership conference.

Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles):

I started off with some quiet sketching time. After I came up with four sketches I started in Adobe InDesign and created what you see above. I used high contrast colors and simplification to complete this design. I used a legible but not over powering body copy font and size to divert attention to the title. I was given the content, image and logo for this flier.

Message:

I am trying to reach recent graduates or those right on the cusp of graduating who want an edge wit leadership skills prior to entering the professional world.

Audience:

Recent graduates 22-30.

Top Thing Learned:

The most valuable thing I learned was to simplify the design. It’s easy to get over passionate and add too many things that complicate or dilute the desired message of the design. I learned that less is more, but that I can still create an eye-catching design without gimmicks.
